Microplastics, minuscule fragments stemming from elements like prints, coatings, buttons, and glitter found in clothing and textiles, are quietly wreaking havoc. An astonishing 0.2 to 0.5 million tonnes of microplastics infiltrate our oceans each year courtesy of synthetic textiles. These inconspicuous culprits infiltrate ecosystems, from plankton to whales in marine realms and land creatures to us humans. They’re not confined to water and soil – airborne particles are inhaled indoors and outdoors. Microplastics even infiltrate our diets, cropping up in seafood, drinking water, beer, salt, and sugar. Not just harmless specks, high exposure can trigger inflammation, toxicity, and serve as carriers for pathogens. Stay informed!
